I just finished reading an interesting new story that I thought I would share. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070129/us_nm/globalwarming_survey_dc;_ylt=ApINb39U32EJw78cVgkmMx8DW7oF;_ylu=X3oDMTBhZDhxNDFzBHNlYwNtZW5ld3M-
According to an AC Nielson report 13% of Americans have never heard of global warming, even though we are the largest producer of green house gasses; should we be surprised? I’m not going to write it off as just plain ignorance, it is more of a case of “It doesn’t affect my daily life, why should I care” kind of deal. The countries that care the most were the ones that live in areas with a high risk of natural disasters.
I will try to make my point now before I go too far off into a tangent on environmentalism. Being ignorant is safe, as the saying goes: “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.” This is a common thought among business students too. As I get closer to graduation I see that more and more of my colleagues are looking for a nice safe job with great benefits. But as we know, job security isn’t as secure as it was in the past. I for one would hate to be laid off from my job at 50 with no way to retire.
So my goal becomes to educate myself on how to stay out of the ratrace. I don’t want to settle for the typical 9 to 5 grind. Maybe oneday this blog can be used as a guide for others who have the same aspirations.
